Courthouse Security
The Culpeper County Sheriff's Office oversees the general security of the Culpeper Courthouse.
Duties include manning the metal detector and x-ray machine at the main entrance, courtroom security, responding to alarms, perimeter patrols and movement of prisoners between the Culpeper County Jail and Courthouse holding.
Security in public buildings has become a necessity and all persons entering the Culpeper County Courthouse will be screened for weapons prior to gaining admittance. All items brought in, such as purses, wallets, briefcases, packages, etc., will be scanned.
To avoid delay, please double check to ensure that you are not carrying any of the items listed below. Leave any questionable items/objects at home or in your vehicle.
Visitors are advised to plan ahead and arrive a few minutes in advance to avoid being late for scheduled proceedings.
All courthouse visitors are asked to cooperate with the deputies. They are under specific instructions for the purpose of providing a safe environment for members of the public and Courthouse employees.

Prohibited items include but are not limited to the following:
- GUNS - AMMUNITION
- KNIVES - SWITCHBLADES
- BOX CUTTERS - SCISSORS
- RAZORS - CHEMICAL MACE
- PEPPER SPRAY - EXPLOSIVE DEVICES
- EXPLOSIVE MATERIAL - BRASS KNUCKLES
- FLAMMABLE MATERIALS - TOOLS (HAMMERS, NAILS, ETC.)
- GLASS BOTTLES - FINGERNAIL FILES
- HANDCUFFS/KEYS - TOY GUNS/KNIVES
- STUN GUNS - CAMERAS - VIDEO/AUDIO RECORDERS
