    Other methods of contact:

    • Text to 9-1-1
Whether due to a safety threat, a medical condition, or any other circumstance that impairs speech, citizens are able to text directly to our 9-1-1 center. While texting 9-1-1 is a valuable tool, it is generally recommended to call 9-1-1 if you are able to speak. Phone calls allow for more direct and immediate exchange of information, enabling emergency responders to quickly assess the situation and provide appropriate assistance.

    • Prepared Live
Culpeper 9-1-1 has live streaming capabilities with a program called Prepared Live. One of the primary benefits of live streaming is the ability to assess the urgency of nature of the situation more accurately. Dispatchers are able to see the number of people involved, the presence of hazards, and the overall environment, allowing them to prioritize calls, dispatch the most appropriate resources, and most importantly, update responders with the most time sensitive information to ensure citizen and responder safety.

    • TDD
Telecommunications Device for the Deaf, also known as TTY (Teletypewriter) and RTT (Real Time Text). This tool allows persons who are deaf, hard of hearing, or have speech impairments speak on the phone. Unlike TTY, which requires a separate device, RTT can be integrated into smartphones and other devices, making it more accessible and convenient. Our 9-1-1 has full access to speak to anyone with these conditions.

    • Rapid SOS
RapidSOS is a company that partners with technology companies and 911 centers to provide more accurate location information for mobile callers. RapidSOS enhances this by integrating data from various sources, including smartphone sensors (like GPS), connected car systems, to provide a more precise location to 911 dispatchers. This additional data can significantly reduce the time it takes for first responders to locate the caller, which is critical in emergencies. By using RapidSOS, 911 centers can receive a caller’s location with much greater accuracy, often down to a few meters. This is particularly helpful in situations where the caller is unable to verbally communication their location, such as during a medical emergency or a crime in progress. The enhanced location accuracy can save valuable time and potentially save lives by enabling faster and more targeted emergency response.
